Drilling technology has advanced immensely in the past 20 years. Directional drilling brought on in the late 1980s, rotary steerable drilling and other smart down hole techniques and tools have progressed past the typical vertical and even basic horizontal well, allowing drilling engineers the creativity to design wells of complex geometry with multiple well paths and extract energy resources from remote, untapped places. While technology continues to excel, there is an ever growing need for multidisciplinary information and software to assist in the design and planning of complex wells.

Anyone working in the drilling industry, particularly those in operations, will find this book useful. This book, however, is not really intended for absolute beginners. The text is worded and formatted on the assumption that you have drilling experience. This book is intended as a reference for drillers, rig supervisors, well planners, etc. In this regard, this book is very effective. I would definitely recommend it. The equations and calculations are not very detailed, and the explanations given to explain the calculations are not entirely adequate, but over all, it serves its purpose.

This book provides a very detailed reference source for most aspects of drilling engineering. It covers everything from bit design to hydraulics to derived burst, collapse and tension equations for casing design. Diagrams and pictures are well presented and helpful in explaining some of the subject matter. The only thing that is lacking is a chapter on drilling optimization.

This text is designed for students in a broad range of career programs that require a solid understanding of basic math, elementary algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. The 2009 Update of this popular text continues a tradition of evolving to reflect today’s work environment and deliver math instruction using the best print and electronic teaching methods and delivery systems available.

First, let me say that there are two different types of books on drilling for oil/gas. Broadly, they are books that concentrate mainly on the financial and legal structure of oil deals and books that concentrate on where it is and how to get it out of the ground. This book is of the second sort

There is also a pretty good basic course in petroleum geology in the first thirteen chapters. And, the science (art?) of geophysics gets a good once-over, too, though I confess I've not paid much attention to it yet.

As the first and only comprehensive guide for engineers on downhole drilling tools, this is a must-have for the drilling community. "Downhole Drilling Tools" describes all the critical tools for the engineer and covers the practical aspects of downhole equipment. A handbook for both the engineering professional and student alike, this textbook includes worked examples and additional references at the end of each chapter. In its entirety, "Downhole Drilling Tools" enables the reader to: recognise drilling benefits and limitations associated with each tool; find solutions to common drilling problems while reducing costs; and perform successful well completions. It is intended for petroleum engineers, drilling engineers, and other oil and gas industry personnel.

Drilling: The Manual of Methods, Applications, and Management is all about drilling and its related geology, machinery, methods, applications, management, safety issues, and more.

Of all the technologies employed by hydrologists, environmental engineers, and scientists interested in subsurface conditions, drilling is one of the most frequently used but most poorly understood. Now, for the first time, this industry-tested manual, developed by one of the world's leading authorities on drilling technology, is available to a worldwide audience.
