First, let me say that there are two different types of books on drilling for oil/gas. Broadly, they are books that concentrate mainly on the financial and legal structure of oil deals and books that concentrate on where it is and how to get it out of the ground. These books are the second sort. The "nontechnical" part of the title is only partly true. Some of the descriptions are sufficiently technical to impart a working understanding of the operations in the field.

Oil & Gas Pipelines in Nontechnical Language examines the processes, techniques, equipment, and facilities used to transport liquids such as refined products, crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids through cross-country pipelines.Topics include the importance of the pipeline infrastructure; planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining pipelines; regulatory requirements; and the challenges for the future. Special emphasis is included on control and leak detection systems as well as emerging technologies and systems to ensure safe and environmentally sound operation. Thorough but easy to read, this text is useful for anyone who wants to learn about pipelines, from petroleum industry newcomers and students to personnel in related arenas such as legal, accounting, financial, government, and others.

In order to wade smoothly through the book it is essential for the non-technical person to read and re-read the first chapter which provides all of the chemistry that you will need for the rest of the book. Even this first chapter has been written to make anyone understand the required chemistry. Each of the subsequent chapters is devoted to different petrochemicals and lucidly explains the chemistry, the manufacturing processes, the uses of the chemicals being discussed, the handling of the chemical, etc.
Simplified diagrams of the manufacturing plant and various processes have helped me to quickly grasp the required essentials

This text provides an easy-to-understand overview of the technically complex subject of well logging. This book will be very useful to bankers, landmen, geology and engineering technicians, clerks, secretaries, and others who need a basic understanding of well logs to perform their jobs.

Petroleum Refining in Nontechnical Language,

William LefflerÂ’s Petroleum Refining in Nontechnical Language, Fourth Edition is designed to give the reader an overview of key refining topics by using relevant analogies, easy-to-understand graphs, formulas, and illustrations. New to this edition is important information on the nature of crude oil and raw materials and a comprehensive discussion on what sets crude oil and oil products price differentials. Also new is a chapter on lubricants as well as the latest technologies employed by refiners. Each chapter was carefully written in nontechnical language to give the reader a basic understanding of the refining industry. The book can be used for self-study, as a classroom textbook, or as a quick reference.

Drilling Technology in Nontechnical Language

Ideal for non-engineer industry professionals and freshmen-level petroleum engineering students. Devereux introduces the reader to both onshore and offshore drilling operations and technology by covering the entire drilling process from basic geology to managing drilling operations. DLC: Oil well drilling.

Nontechnical Guide to Petroleum Geology, Exploration, Drilling and Production

In attempting to get quickly up to speed on the oil business for the purpose of participating in a few wells as a (very) small investor, I bought about ten books of various sorts. This is one of them, and has turned out to be the one I refer to the most.

The Petroleum Industry: A Nontechnical Guide

Designed to demystify the roles of geophysicists, reservoir engineers, etc., in order to make sense to those new to the industry without a technical background. DLC: Petroleum Engineering.

Dictionary of Petroleum Exploration, Drilling & Production

This book is full of clear and complete definitions of most of the terminology used in the Oil business. It also have lots of illustrations. It is very hard not to find what you are looking for. Excellent for people that work in the Oil business.

A Primer of Oilwell Drilling,

This new expanded and colourful edition features enhanced content and graphics. With a new engineering perspective supplied by author and industry expert Dr. Paul M. Bommer, Senior Lecturer of Petroleum Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, this Primer remains the comprehensive first reader of the oilwell drilling industry. It contains over 220 vibrant photos and illustrations, covering drilling processes both on land and offshore, from exploration to well completion. Includes a glossary of drilling terms. Published in cooperation with the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC). Also includes 20"x24" full-colour rotary rig poster.

Deepwater Petroleum Exploration & Production: A Nontechnical Guide

Text overviews the business, engineering, and technology of deepwater petroleum exploration and production. Provides coverage of all aspects of deepwater operations: including historic background; drilling and completing wells; development systems; fixed structures; floating production systems; subsea systems; topsides; and pipelines, flowlines, and risers.

A Primer of Offshore Operations

Describes the techniques and equipment used around the world, devoting chapters to exploration, drilling, production, Workover, and oil and gas transportation. Presents both English and metric measurements. Written in clear, basic language with over 140 vibrant photographs and illustrations, this book is ideal for anyone seeking fundamental information about offshore oil and gas operations.

A Primer of Oilwell Drilling: A Basic Text of Oil and Gas Drilling

Written in a simple language, this book is accessible to readers who are not specifically familiar with oilwell drilling. Numerous photographs and drawings make it a very accurate description of the equipment and activities on and around a land rig floor. Easy, enjoyable and very informative to read throughout. Does not tackle offshore rigs or directional drilling.

Reference Manuals Listed here are some very useful manuals and guide books for the professional trade’s people that support our industry, many people on the front line forget these people and how much we rely on them to keep the operation running no industry can run effectively without them, most rigs have very competent people backing up the system, however many of these books can be added to the rigs or operation recreation room and can be used to help solve some of the problems that often arise these are just links to a few pages that between them list thousands of very good books and reference manuals Centrifugal Pumps: Design and Application,
